Local young women hope to be S&P queen

The Louisisna Shrimp and Petroleum Festival Pageant and Coronation will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $6 for children.

Seven local young women will be vying for the opportunity to be the next Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival queen on Aug. 26. The pageant and coronation will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. Tickets, available at the door, are $8 for adults and $6 for children.
Bidding farewell will be the 87th Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival King and Queen Gregory Hamer Sr. and Jordan Ann Gallegos.
Maids competing are:

Emily Carter, 19, is the daughter of Byron and Christal Carter of Morgan City. The Morgan City High School graduate attends Fletcher Technical Community College where she is pursuing an associate degree in accounting technology.
At Fletcher, she is involved in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. While at MCHS, she was involved in BETA, JROTC and Student Government.
In her free time, she enjoys fishing, crawfishing, boat riding and traveling.

Gweneth Dohmann, 19, is the daughter of Joey and Sharon Dohmann of Berwick. The 2022 graduate of Central Catholic High School attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she is majoring in business finance.
In college she is a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and the Cajun Catholics religious organization.
Her interests include baking, horseback riding, exercising and traveling.

Brenna Laubach, 20, is the daughter of Celine Lee and David Laubach of Morgan City. The CCHS graduate attends ULL where she is majoring in fine arts with a concentration in acting.
At ULL, she is a member of the Alpha Psi Omega Fraternity and is on the President’s List.
Among her many activities at CCHS, she was BETA Club vice president, varsity cheer co-captain, and a member of the Retreat Team, Key Club, ARK and National Honor Society.
She also attended the Disney College Program.
Besides her job at a local boutique, her interests include cooking and traveling.

Ali LeBlanc, 19, is the daughter of Scott LeBlanc and Katherine Foret LeBlanc of Patterson. The 2022 Patterson High School graduate attended the Academy of Acadiana where she obtained dental and orthodontic assistant certifications.
She is an orthodontic assistant at Bayou Braces and hopes to return to school to further her education and obtain a dental hygienist degree.
During her years at PHS, she maintained a 3.8 GPA and was actively involved in various sports and clubs.
Her interests include hunting, fishing, boating and taste testing the many different Cajun dishes Louisiana offers.

Magdalene Lemoine, 18, is the daughter of Stacey and Shawn Lemoine of Berwick. She attends Louisiana State University where she is pursuing a dual degree in industrial engineering and business administration with a minor in mathematics.
At LSU, she is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and holds leadership roles in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and Resident Life government.
In her free time she enjoys going for walks and reading.

Abbie Scully, 19, is the daughter of Candy and Bryan Scully of Morgan City. The CCHS graduate attends Nicholls State University majoring in accounting and computer information systems.
At Nicholls, she is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma, was on the President’s List and was a camp counselor for the NSU children’s summer camp.
While at CCHS, she was a member of the softball, volleyball and cheerleading teams, and was cheer co-captain her senior year. Her club activities included being BETA Club president and Student Council vice president, and a member of the Retreat Team, National Honors Society, Sisters in Christ and Acts of Random Kindness Club.
She also maintained a 4.0 GPA and was a valedictorian.
Continuing her love for softball, she coaches an 8-year-old Prospects Softball Team at The Farm in Thibodaux. She also enjoys drawing.

Trysten Tallada, 18, is the daughter of Leo and Christina Landry of Morgan City. The 2022 MCHS graduate attends Fletcher Technical Community College where she is pursuing a degree in criminal justice. She also works at Skipper’s Sporting Goods.
While at MCHS, she was a school ambassador and Fancy Dancers co-captain.
She was the first Spirit of Morgan City Christmas Festival Queen.
Her other activities include being a member of the media team at Word of Life Family Church and a member of Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department.
She also enjoys traveling.
