The Bethel Pentecostal Fellowship choir performed at the lighting ceremony in Patterson Sunday at the City Hall parking lot. In the blue shirt at left is Mayor Rodney Grogan, who joined the choir in singing before Santa Claus arrived on a city fire truck. Patterson’s Christmas Parade is set for 2 p.m. Dec. 9. The parade is to begin at the Place Norman Shopping Center and end at Patterson High School. If weather permits, a Christmas Festival will be held at the Patterson High School football stadium sponsored by high school community student volunteers.

Representatives of the Junior Auxiliary of East St Mary are accepting a donation of a 1 carat total weight pair of diamond earrings valued at $2,500 from Browns Jewelers that will be raffled off at their Wine & Dine fundraising event to be held at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City Thursday. Funds raised at the event will help fund many programs that benefit children within the community. A limited number of tickets are still available for the event. Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4222 of Morgan City gathered Monday morning at the Morgan City Cemetery with Morgan City High School’s Historical Society members to place restored and new flags on the graves of veterans for Veterans Day, Nov. 11. VFW members present included Theresa Schexnider, auxiliary president; Sherman Whiting, quartermaster; Bernice Elliott, Americanism chairman; Kristie Sistrunk, treasurer; Eva Guillotte, trustee; Paulette Lightsey, senior vice president; Tina Stratton, District 3 senior vice president; Pat Macey, Jerry Cunningham, member; and Stephanie Landry, member. Morgan City High School’s Historical Society is sponsoring the Veterans Day ceremony Friday at the school. The Historical Society is led by Catherine Holcomb, a Morgan City High School teacher. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the newly constructed LAD Service Yard on River Road in Berwick on Friday. The marine and dry-dock repair yard has 20 to 25 workers on site, but will soon be adding 10 more due to an increase in work available, according to owner Lee Dragna. Among those attending the ceremony were Paul Naquin, parish president; Donna Myers, St. Mary Chamber of Commerce executive director; Lisa Patterson, St. Mary Chamber of Commerce ambassador; Dragna; Harris DeHart, yard superintendent; Duval Arthur Jr., Berwick town councilman; Bryan Crochet, operator foreman; and Joe Cavalier, chief operations officer.
