The newest downtown Morgan City eatery is Café FloMingo’s at 119 Everett St. The café is open Mondays through Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. The menu ranges from breakfast foods and lunch combinations to a kid’s menu. Cutting the ribbon is co-owner Flora Morris as co-owner Sonja Mingo and Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi, left and right of bow respectively, look on with a host of family, friends, St. Mary Chamber of Commerce officials and well-wishers. The chamber sponsored the ribbon cutting.

The Junior Auxiliary of East St. Mary recently completed their latest service project for the community. It was called snack packs. JA members stuffed more than 150 bags with easy to prepare snacks and food for children at Maitland Elementary School. The program’s focus was to ensure that children had enough food options over the holiday school break. Maison Jardin recently coordinated several “Red Hair Day” events for February’s Heart Month. From left, accepting a donation from Maison Jardin’s Lisa Patterson, are the local American Heart Association representatives Paula Dawson, vice president of the Greater Southeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association; Gwen Luc, Morgan City’s local American Heart Board, Patterson; and Frances Dupre, Alita Boudreaux, Julie Domino and Jodi Grizzaffi from Morgan City’s local American Heart Association Board. Money collected by Maison Jardin was from events coordinated at Morgan City High School and M C Bank. The money will be used by the local American Heart Association to go toward local “Teaching Gardens” to be established in local elementary schools. The contribution will be paired with the June 7 event “That Just Takes The Cake.” Community members wishing to purchase tickets or sponsorship opportunities for this event can contact Luc at 985-372-8520 or Dupre at 985-384-2100.
