The show was nominated in the category of Documentary—Cultural. The winners will be announced on Dec. 3 at ceremonies in Miami.
The documentary tells the story of Native Americans, the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, who were among the first people to inhabit Louisiana some 8,000 years ago in the Atchafalaya Basin of Louisiana.
Directed and produced by award-winning LPB Senior Producer Tika Laudun, this documentary was written and narrated by Chitimacha tribal member Roger Stouff and co-produced and written with C.E. Richard Charles E. Richard, the Joseph P. Montiel Endowed Professor and Director of the Center for Moving Image Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
LPB’s Rex Fortenberry was the photographer and editor for the program. Special assistance was provided by Chitimacha Cultural Director Kimberly Walden.
The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is a nonprofit Florida corporation dedicated to excellence in television. The awards are presented to television markets in the entire state of Florida, Louisiana, Mobile, Alabama, Thomasville, Georgia and Puerto Rico.
