A total of 25 students from Bambi and Cinderella St Mary Community Action Agency Head Start centers participated in “Bank Day” recently.

There were thousands of pennies to count and an abundance of smiles caught on camera. Parent participation has been considerably higher this year compared to past years, a clear sign of the level of concern and involvement Head Start parents have in their children, said Almetra J. Franklin, Head Start chief executive officer.

“It is so important that we instill good values and financial principles in our children so they can appreciate the value of a dollar. Our children also need to know the importance of working hard to save their money as well,” Franklin added.

Students from Peter Pan Head Start center also went to Teche Federal Bank in Franklin for their “Bank Day” event.

“I’m excited to see how much this program has grown since our first year,” said Delores Stewart, event coordinator. “The financial institutions are always pleasant and helpful with the kids.”

Parents are encouraged to make regular deposits in their children’s accounts as well.
