The venue for this year’s event will be the “old A&P parking lot” located at 1814 Main St.
The nostalgic Main Street Cruise will take place from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Participants are encouraged to ride along Main Street, circling the Sonic Drive-In and the St. Mary Parish Courthouse. Participants are reminded not to drink and drive.
Several events will take place throughout the day, including:
—A car show will be held at the Main Street location parking lot. A designated space will be reserved for participants to display their show cars. Priority parking spaces for these vehicles will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge. A Car Part Swap Meet will also take place.
—The “Let’s Go Play” portion will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the parking lot with games such as four square, kickball, Chinese jump rope, basketball and other grade school activities.
—Visit Shadowlawn at Main Street and Adams Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a tour. Admission is $5 and the adjacent Tavern Gift Shop will also be open.
—Visit Grevemberg House Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Fonville Winans Photographic Exhibit. Winans was a noted American photographer whose black and white images uniquely captured the people and places of south Louisiana. Admission is $5.
—Listen to live music at the reunion area throughout the day. The Quale Manifold Band takes the stage from noon until 3 p.m., followed by Colby Boudreaux & Southern Beat, 3:30-6:30 p.m. Finally, Yum Yum Band will play 7-10 p.m.
—The Legion on the Bayou (old American Legion Hall) located at 1330 Irish Bend Road will be sponsoring and hosting the Let’s Go Riding Franklin Dance from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. There will be a $5 cover charge.
Food and craft vendors will be set up on the reunion grounds and many local businesses will be open all day throughout the city. Parking for the event will be available in the grass field behind McDonalds.
Participants are encouraged to bring bag chairs for comfort and are reminded that by law no one under the age of 12 is allowed to ride in the back of a pickup truck.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the City of Franklin Main Street Program. Funds will be used to landscape the areas around the city gateway signs.
