PATTERSON — The Patterson Lumberjacks began play in its Lumberjack Invitational in style Thursday with an 83-36 rout of Loreauville.

The ’Jacks held the Tigers to single digit scoring totals in every quarter except the third, when Loreauville put up 16 points.

Meanwhile, Patterson reached double figures in every quarter, including 26 in the third.

“I thought that the intensity level was there at the start of the game,” Patterson coach Ryan Taylor said. “We let it slip in the third for a few possessions but finished strong … The letdown in the third was something we can’t let happen, regardless of the score.”

Still, Taylor said he thought his squad played better than its other lone outing, also a rout last Thursday in its season opener against Jeanerette.

Nehemiah Augustus, Dontrell Benjamin and Denzel Johnson all reached double figures for Patterson with 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Other top Patterson contributors included Deondre Skinner and DJ Jones, nine apiece; Mykel Jones, seven; Taylan Grogan and Daylon Charlot, six each; and Larry Turner, four.

Patterson will return to action today when it faces St. Martinville, a 58-11 winner against Berwick in other first-round action, today at 7:45 p.m.

Loreauville will meet Berwick in an elimination game set for 4 p.m.
