PATTERSON — The Patterson Lumberjills picked up their first District 9-3A win of the season Thursday with a 16-6 win against Abbeville in six innings.

Rebecca Taylor and Grace Beadle each finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs apiece, Carissa Fontenot finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Rachel Easley, 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Maddi Morris added a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI.

Fontenot earned the win.

Patterson (13-3 overall, 1-3 in district) will return to action today when they participate in Catholic High-New Iberia’s Bayou Blowout 2013. Patterson will play Church Point today at 4 p.m. and will continue play Saturday with an 11 a.m. matchup against H.L. Bourgeois and a 3 p.m. contest against Hanson.

Central Catholic run-rules Gueydan

Megan Landry tossed a two hitter and struck out 11 as the Central Catholic Lady Eagles eased by Gueydan, 10-0, in five innings Thursday in Bayou Vista.

In a complete game effort, Landry also walked one to improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in District 8-1A play.

At the plate, she smacked two doubles and recorded two RBIs.

The Lady Eagles plated a run in the second, six in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth.

In the win, the squad stole a combined 10 bases, while it pounded out 12 hits.

Other top hitters included Celine Flores, a single and two RBIs; Brittany Longman, two doubles, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base; Kimberly Russo, two hits, a run and two stolen bases; Amanda Barron, a single, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base; Olivia Crawford, a single, an RBI and a stolen base; Caroline Byrne, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; and Elizabeth Garber, a single and two stolen bases.

Central Catholic (13-3 overall, 2-0 in District 8-1A play) will return to action today with a 5 p.m. contest against Teurlings Catholic in the Lutcher Tournament, while on Saturday, Central Catholic will face Riverside at 9 a.m. and Neville at 1 p.m.

Morgan City falls to Vandebilt Catholic

Morgan City dropped a 5-0 decision to Vandebilt Catholic on the road Thursday in District 8-4A action.

In the loss, Tyler Hebert surrendered five runs — two earned — on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

At the plate, Hebert, Katelyn Adams and Brandi Ingram each finished 1-for-3.

In the loss, Morgan City had runners on base in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Morgan City (8-9 overall, 1-2 in district) will return to action today in the Brusly tournament. The Lady Tigers will play Franklinton today at 4 p.m. and Notre Dame Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hahnville defeats Berwick

Hahnville defeated Berwick, 13-5, in non-district action Thursday in Berwick.

No individual statistics were available from the contest.

Hahnville is the defending Class 5A state runner-up and currently the second-ranked team in Class 5A, according to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.

With the loss, Berwick falls to 9-7. The Lady Panthers will return to District 9-3A action Saturday when they travel to face Kaplan for a 4 p.m. game.
