A St. Mary Parish employee was killed after a collision with a train Friday afternoon.

Sheriff Mark Hebert said the accident happened at 1:24 p.m.

The parish animal control truck driven by a control officer Raymond Ina Jr., 52, of Franklin was crossing the railroad tracks at the parish barn property near the Hanson Canal east of Franklin.

The eastbound train hit the truck and both came to a stop at Alice C Road to the west.

Ina died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Hebert said the accident is still under investigation.
