The A-HEC of a Summer program at Franklin Foundation Hospital and Teche Action Clinic was held from June 6-20. The Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center program provides an opportunity for high school students to experience career opportunities in health care by taking part in volunteer work at health care facilities and shadowing health care professionals. Participants this year were Lexi Coleman and Courtney Frederick from Hanson Memorial High School; Karly Wilson, Highland Baptist; Mindy Desormeaux, Shawna Hebert, Lacy St. Blanc and Katie Strubb, Franklin Senior High School; and Jasi Anderson, Megan Arton, J’Kierra Marsh, Tanisha Jones and Kaylee Cormier from West St. Mary High School. St. Blanc was named Outstanding Student Volunteer during the program, and Marsh was Most Likely to Pursue a Medical Career.
