State Police said Bernell Bernard, 49, of Arnaudville was riding east about 8 p.m. when he entered La. 741, lost control of his four-wheeler and it overturned on top of him.
Hammie Janise, 66, of Port Barre was approaching in his van and tried to avoid the ATV but could not, troopes said.
Janise struck the 4-wheeler and Bernard. Janise sustained minor injuries in the crash and Bernard sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Janise was not charged.
