Abel Joseph Norman Sr., a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away at Teche Regional Medical Center Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.

Abel was a World War II veteran who loved playing his steel guitar and writing poetry.

Abel is survived by his three sons, Abel Norman Jr. of Delhi, David Norman of New Iberia, and Michael Norman and his wife Iva of Lithia Springs, Ga.; two daughters, Mary N. Marceaux and husband Eugene of Morse, and Martha N. Smilie and husband Jimmy of Morgan City; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Abel was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Norman; parents, Abel and Lillie Norman; two sisters, Mabel and Florence Norman; and one grandson, Philip Marceaux.

Visitation will be held today, Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City and resumes Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery with full military honors provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
