Stoney Lapointe, 48, was arrested Friday on one count of aggravated rape.
According to Church Point police, Lapointe is accused of raping a female family member for the last eight years, starting when she was five years old.
Police say the victim's mother just found out what was happening and called Church Point Police. The victim is now 13 years.
Lapointe is a registered sex offender in Acadia Parish and has previous convictions including a sexual battery charge from 1995 and a contributing to the delinquency of juveniles perform sexually immoral acts conviction from 1982.
Lapointe is in the Acadia Parish Jail with a $1,000,000 bond.
Church Point Police Chief Albert Venable said other charges are pending.
