An industrial accident claimed the life of a young production worker at the Allison Marine facility in Amelia on Thursday.

Oscar Pharegood, 22, of Napoleonville was guiding the lowering of a pressure vessel by a crane. When he released the cables, the vessel began to lean, and it fell on him, according to a press release from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Acadian Ambulance took Pharegood to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, where he died from his injuries.

Allison Marine did not return telephone calls this morning seeking comment.

Earlier this week, a fire erupted in the company’s Amelia office building.

Thursday had already been a deadly day for oil production work. A few hours earlier and fewer than 100 miles away, Kevin Benjamin, 26, of Carencro was killed after a crane operator accidentally crushed him as they were moving pipes, the Associated Press reported.
