BATON ROUGE – Louisiana’s political best seller, Edwin Edwards, Governor of Louisiana, An Authorized Biography by Leo Honeycutt, will be featured nationally New Year’s Day on CSPAN’s popular “Book TV” Program. The interview with Louisiana author Leo Honeycutt airs Sunday afternoon, January 1, 2012, at 3 p.m. on CSPAN 2.

“The interview balances Governor Edwards’ immense political-fiscal ability, both state and national, with his rogue reputation,” says Honeycutt. “He worked with every president from Kennedy to Clinton and was almost tapped in 1980 for VP had Ted Kennedy ousted President Carter. That’s after Edwards got national attention by flipping Louisiana in just two years from bankruptcy to record surpluses. But his destiny was altered by scandal and taunting federal lawmen. He beat them in 1986 but they returned the favor in 2000, convicting him, I believe, after steamrolling over constitutional rights and laws while setting free three millionaires who confessed corruption via bartered testimony.”

Published by The Lisburn Press in 2009, the Edwards biography is winner of both the Louisiana Literary Award, chosen by state librarians, and the Louisiana History Preservation Award given by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana. Publisher Jim Brown adds, “And selling over 50,000 copies in less than two years also makes this book the all-time bestselling political biography in Louisiana history. It has people who had given up on politics reading again, less apathetic, and understanding clearly how to make Louisiana better.”

“I’m not surprised Book TV would want to nationally profile this book,” says iconic Louisiana campaigner, writer and raconteur Gus Weill. “The Edwards biography would have won the Pulitzer Prize had Honeycutt had the backing of a university. It’s that well researched and written.”

CSPAN2, Book TV, has scheduled the profile for 3:11 p.m. New Year’s Day. Honeycutt’s interview is already online at www.cspan.org interspersed with historic pictures.
