JEANERETTE -- An allegedly drunk driver will be charged with vehicular homicide in a crash that killed her passenger.

The accident happened about 1 a.m. Saturday on La. 182 north of La. 318.

State Police said unrestrained passenger Donella Hill, 24, was killed and the driver Brittney Hill, 23, was injured. They did not say the relationship, if any, between the two women.

Both occupants are from Jeanerette.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Brittney Hill was driving west on La. 182 in a 2007 Toyota Camry when she failed to negotiate a left curve causing the Toyota to leave the roadway to the right.

Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered a ditch and traveled for approximately 90 feet before impacting a culvert and overturning.

Both women were unbelted and were ejected.

Troopers suspect Brittney Hill to have been impaired at the time of the crash and have submitted biological samples to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology analysis.

Upon release from the hospital, she will be booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, careless operation, and failure to wear a seatbelt, the report stated.
