AMELIA — Firefighters from the local volunteer fire department responded to a fire this morning at the Allison Marine office building.

An employee opened the office building around 6:15 a.m. and noted nothing unusual.

“About 15 or 20 minutes later, the phones started acting up,” AVFD chief Carl McAllister said. “He went into a room, opened a door, and saw smoke and flames.”

He said that an investigation is pending.

“I’m waiting on their insurance company to show up,” McAllister said.

He said that while he cannot say nor determine the cause of the fire, “it was in a void space above the ceiling, and it looks like the fire ran along the ductwork.”

Manpower help was requested from Morgan City Fire Department and the East St. Mary Parish Rescue Team.
