AMELIA, La. -- An Amelia man was arrested on multiple charges including kidnapping, assault of the kidnapping victim and assaulting a police officer.

Israel Vazquez Garza, 25, of Cypress Street, Amelia, was arrested at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday on warrants for simple battery, simple robbery, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a peace officer, aggravated second degree battery, reckless operation of a vehicle, flight from an officer, two counts simple criminal damage to property, second degree kidnapping and operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert.

Vazquez is alleged to have committed battery, forcing a female victim at gunpoint into a vehicle and driving to Waterworks Drive, and taking her mobile phone. The victim sustained bruises, black eyes and a cut on her lip, the report stated.

The deputy located the vehicle Vazquez was using on Lake Palourde Road, Hebert stated. When the deputy attempted to make contact with Vazquez, who was in the vehicle, Vazquez put the vehicle in gear, striking a deputy and a sheriff’s office vehicle. The deputy sustained a laceration on his finger.

Vazquez then fled to his residence on Cypress Street where he was taken into custody, Hebert stated.

Vazquez was transported to the parish jail where he remains with bail not yet set.
