ST. MARTINVILLE -- Breaux Bridge native Scott Angelle is moving on, to run for a vacant seat on the Public Service Commission.

On Tuesday, Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Angelle to the LSU Board of Regents.

Angelle, who was St. Martin Parish’s first parish president, was first appointed to head DNR by Gov. Kathleen Blanco. Both were Democrats at the time.

Jindal, a Republican, kept Angelle on as DNR secretary and even made him his legislative liaison.

Angelle subsequently changed his party affiliation to Republican.

“Scott has worn a lot of different hats for our administration and been a warrior for the people of Louisiana,” Jindal said Wednesday. “He has helped shepherd critical reforms through the legislature, including landmark education and pension laws. As the state’s point person on federal oil and gas permitting issues, Scott was at the center of the fight to get our people back to work after the federal government implemented a drilling moratorium. As I’ve said before, Scott is a public servant to the core with an incredible work ethic and a big heart.”

Jindal appointed Stephen Chustz, director of the Atchafalaya Basin Program to serve as interim DNR secretary.

Angelle on Thursday announced he will run this fall for the PSC seat being vacated by Jimmie Fields.
