Apparently distracted teen driver loses vehicle control, hits tree, dies

TANGIPAHOA –State Police said apparent driver inattention at high speed resulted in a crash on Interstate 12 that killed her and injured two passengers.

Troopers said Kristina Barnard was driving westbound about 8 p.m. Monday near the St. Tammany-Tangipahoa parish line where her Ford Focus began to drift left.

Barnard over-corrected to the right,c ausing the vehicle to leave the highway and hit a tree. She was killed.

Two teen-aged girls in the vehicle w received moderated injuries. All three were restrained.
