Local author Lana Laws Downing will appear on Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s program “Louisiana: The State We’re In” this Friday.

The program airs at 7 p.m. on LPB, Cox Cable channel 12.

Program producer Donna LaFleur traveled to Franklin where Downing, a former English teacher, shares stories from her ancestors in her just-released book called “Heaven and High Water.”

The story is a fictionalized account drawn from the early years of Downing’s mother, Alfreda Felterman Laws, with photographs and illustrations. The book is currently available at the Franklin Foundation Hospital gift shop and Fad News Stand in Franklin.
