Funeral services were held Monday, February 6, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin for Barbara Elene Jeffreys Bercegeay, 79, longtime resident of Lafayette, who passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 6:36 p.m., at River Region Hospice in River Ridge. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Centerville. Dr. David Jeffreys, Associate Pastor of Highland Baptist Church in New Iberia, officiated the services.

Barbara was born in Gladewater, Texas and was raised in Tomball, Texas, as well as in Des Allemands. She married her husband, Tish, in 1954 in Franklin and moved to Houston, Texas, where they spent many years before moving to Lafayette, where she resided most of her adult life. She was an avid bridge player, loved reading, and enjoyed making crafts, especially Christmas ornaments. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include one son, Scott Lussan Bercegeay and Kristin Caire of Lafayette; one daughter, Robin Leigh Bercegeay Burnham and her husband, James, of Moss Bluff; one brother, Richard Franklin Jeffreys Jr. of Mandeville; one sister, Peggy Jeffreys Peltier of Morgan City; her dearest friend in the world, Nelda Candies and her daughters, Barbara Schneider and Nelda Stidham and their children, all of Des Allemands; five grandchildren, Gabrielle Elene Burnham, Luke James Burnham, Matthew David Burnham, Sara Katheryn Burnham and Parker William Bercegeay; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Melville “Tish” Bercegeay; her parents, Richard Franklin Jeffreys Sr. and Jewel Martin Jeffreys; and one sister, Mary Jeffreys Dufene.

Pallbearers were Eddie Jeffreys, Richard Fugler, Kevin Caffery, Michael Noel, Lance Fry, Jimmy Davis, James Burnham and David Bercegeay. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends was held Sunday, Feb. 5 at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., and again Monday, February 6, from 8 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
