The low bid of $950,000 from Acadiane Renovations Limited of Franklin was accepted for a substation to be located under the U.S. 90 overpass southwest of the town over Martin Luther King Street.
Architect Jim Firmin wrote the town that ARL’s bid came in under his projected project cost.
Having a fire station across the railroad tracks has been under discussion and planning for some time. It will provide fire protection to that area of the town.
Also Tuesday, the board accepted donation of a 19-foot by 20-foot parcel of land at Haven Street and Lincoln Street where the town built a sewer lift station around the year 2000.
Mayor Wayne Breaux said it came to light during history research following an application to subdivide the land that the town never legally recorded the donation of the land from the owners.
The board accepted the donation as well as approved the subdivision of the property.
Also Tuesday:
—A mobile home on the former Baldwin Elementary School property was designated surplus property to be sold.
—A resolution supporting St. Mary Council on Aging and urging the state to protect funding for senior programs such as COA all across Louisiana.
—The board approved the hiring of James Young as a new police officer.
—Breaux reported that two homes under the state rehabilitation project are nearly completed, and a third existing structure demolished and new construction started.
