ALFRED BROUSSARD of Baldwin recently grew these two enormous turnips in his garden. Broussard says that gardening is a hobby of his and he planted these turnips from seeds in the fall. He used ammonia nitrate as fertilizer. The giant turnips weigh in at 14 and a half and fifteen pounds. “However,” Broussard said jokingly, “Ammonia nitrate is not the only secret you must possess in growing enormous turnips, one must also have a green thumb.”
