According to Kentwood Chief of Police Greg Newton, the victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was being escorted by another employee in a separate vehicle, but the vehicles were separated during the drive.
The victim drove up to the deposit box at First Guaranty Bank and reached down to get the money bag.
When she raised up, she observed two male suspects in dark clothing standing at her window. One suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money.
The victim immediately began screaming, put her car in drive and hit the gas pedal in an attempt to speed away from the scene. At that time, one of the suspects shot at the victim striking the headrest of the driver's seat.
The bullet traveled through the headrest, striking the victim in the shoulder, and landing on the seat of the vehicle. "The victim was treated and later released from the hospital," Chief Newton reported. "We are asking area merchants to call the police department and request an escort when making night deposits," Newton added.
According to Newton, after firing the shot, the suspects fled the scene heading north.
