A Basile man has been cited for an alleged violation of the closed alligator season.

On Monday, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said that it received an anonymous tip that four alligators had been captured and were being held in a container at an Evangeline Parish address.

A wildlife agent located four live alligators on the property on Oct. 7.

The state agency says 50-year-old John Sonnier was cited for possessing alligators during a closed season.

The alligators were seized and released into the wild
