This one will be in Arnaudville and starts at 9 a.m. at the Arnaudville boat launch.
Organizer Blake Couvillion is asking for volunteers, friends, and families to bring their motor boats to help pull trash from Bayou Teche. Efforts to remove debris include everything from domestic trash to washing machines and discarded water heaters.
Close to 50 tons of trash and debris have been pulled out of Bayou Teche in the four years the organization has been volunteering their time on the Bayou.
“Cajuns for Bayou Teche and its volunteers has been able to significantly clean the banks of Bayou Teche over the past several years,” Couvillion said. “It is very important that we keep the banks in good order. The area has been enjoying more recreational activity, and our volunteers are the reason for our current success. Please help us to conserve this historic bayou in Cajun Country.”
Volunteers with motor boats are needed to make this effort possible. Kayaks and canoes are also encouraged. Drinks and garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves. All volunteers will receive a 2012 Tour du Teche Race Poster.
With the Third Annual Tour du Teche just around the corner, Cajuns for Bayou Teche hopes to ensure that the waterway is fit for residents and guests to have an enjoyable canoe and kayak race.
Cajuns for Bayou Teche is a program of the TECHE Project, a non-profit organization supporting programs about Bayou Teche.
