Weeks Marine of New York is working in Berwick Bay on a dredging contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, according to Mike Lowe of the corps.

“We are disposing of that material in the deep water of the Atchafalaya River,” he said, adding that some of the sediment was sold to local commercial sandpits when the dredging was done near their locations.

Work in the Morgan City area is expected to take about three weeks. Weeks Marine is operating its cutter head dredge from its facility in Houma.

The operation is shown Thursday.
