Berwick fell in four games to Vanderbilt Catholic (15-25, 26-24, 14-25, 12-25) in Berwick’s Division 3, District 5 opener in Berwick Monday.

Elizabeth Hover led the Lady Panthers (3-7) with 10 kills, one ace, nine assists, five digs and a block, while Abigail Ohlin added five kills, 17 digs and a block. Other Lady Panther contributors included Diana Grace Guarisco, 12 digs; Rebecca Richard, an ace, eight assists and five digs; Abigail Askew, four kills and three blocks; and Maddie Gray, four kills.

During action this weekend at the Morgan City High School Lady Tiger Invitational, Berwick recorded a 1-2 mark with a win against Westgate (25-18, 25-15) and losses to Ellender (25-22, 19-25, 16-18) and West St. Mary (19-25, 25-22, 14-16).

Against Westgate, Hover led the Lady Panthers with four kills and four aces, nine assists and three blocks, while Guarisco had four aces and three digs. Khadijah Johnson added four kills.

In the loss to West St. Mary, Hover had six kills, an ace, four assists and five digs, while Ohlin added four kills, three aces, two assists and eight digs. Richard added four aces, seven assists and five digs for the Lady Panthers.

Against Ellender, Hover had six kills, three aces, five assists and seven digs, while Ohlin had five aces and 11 digs. Johnson and Gray also recorded six and four kills, respectively, for the Lady Panthers.

Berwick will return to action Thursday when its travels to New Iberia to face Westgate High. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity play at 5:30 p.m.
