MORGAN CITY, La. -- Ron Bias is announcing his candidacy for city councilman District 3.
I’m the son of the late Claiborne and Helen Bias Sr. I’m married to the former Margaret Hebert. We’re lifelong citizens of Morgan City. We have two children, Leticia Charles and Curran Bias, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
For the last 7¾ years, I’ve served as city councilman, elected in District 3. During my tenure as councilman I’ve worked with the mayor and council to make our city a place for all citizens to live and enjoy. I serve on the insurance, culture and tourism, board of adjustments, and library committees. Also served on the 150th city anniversary committee, have worked to get people from all cultures appointed to our boards and committees. Have talked with the fire and police chiefs in an effort to hire minorities in fire service and law enforcement. Always opened minded to the views of the people. The only problem I haven’t taken to City Hall is the one I don’t know about. I’m two times city councilman, elected in 2004. Was unopposed in 2008. Two times mayor pro tem. As elected by my fellow councilmen, two times budget chairman. I’ve worked to enhance recreation any way possible. Along with the Young Foundation, parish and city governments. The Broussard playground became a reality, where a public playground had never been established. I believe we need to take a closer look at our housing situations. Not only in the form of those who can buy homes, but also those who rent. Come back to the table and start some dialogue on a recreation complex. Have some citizen involvement to quell the buffer between the police, and some citizens in our community. I’ve worked with T. Baker Smith, parish and city governments to construct a road along the south side of the sea wall. There is some legality to be complete. After which bids will go out and construction will begin. This will take trucks transporting waste out of our communities. And also provide short-term employment for our citizens. Will continue to look for ways and ideas to improve this municipality.
I’m No. 58 on your ballot, thank you for your support. Even if you don’t vote for me remember, the only votes that don’t count are the ones you don’t cast. Early voting starts Oct. 23. If you need assistance call your local voter registration office at 985-384-8638. Thank you and may God bless.
