A Bayou L’Ourse man riding his bicycle was killed Monday evening after he was struck by a truck while crossing La. 398.

According to the Louisiana State Police crash report, Robert H. Fox, 76, was attempting to cross La. 398 — just east of La. 662 — on his bicycle when he was struck at approximately 6 p.m. by a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Perry Comeaux, 56, of Labadieville, who had just turned onto La. 398 from La. 662.

Fox was ejected from the bicycle upon contact and sustained critical injuries, State Police, according to Trooper Evan Harrell, Troop C public information officer.

He died shortly after his arrival at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Harrell said.

State police say alcohol may be a factor in the crash, and while Comeaux was cleared of any alcoholic involvement, toxicology results are pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office on Fox, Harrell said.

The crash remains under investigation.

State police remind bicyclists to be aware of their surroundings and make sure they cross intersections and streets only when it’s safe to do so.
