Books will close on Wednesday for the October 22 election.

Registrar of Voters Jolene Holcombe said anyone wishing to vote in that election must be registered by the close of books. Early voting begins on Saturday, Oct. 8 and continues through Saturday, Oct. 15.

Hours for early voting are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Registrar’s office on the third floor of the courthouse and also at the Registrar’s branch office in Morgan City at 301 Third St. You may vote early in either office regardless of your address.

The following issues are on the ballot:

Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Secretary of State, Attorney General; Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry; Commissioner of Insurance; BESE – District 3; State Senator – 21st District; State Representative – District 51; St. Mary Parish – Sheriff; St. Mary Parish President; St. Mary Parish Councilmen, District 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11; 5 Constitutional Amendments; St. Mary Parish – Proposition (Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption); St. Mary Parish Consolidated School District No. 5 – Proposition (11.18 Mill property tax renewal for 10 years); Recreation District No. 2 – Proposition (10 year, 13.34 mills property tax continuation); Recreation District No. 2 – Proposition ($2,000,000, 10 year General Obligation Bonds); Water and Sewer Commission No. 2 – Proposition (10 year, 11 mills property tax renewal); Ward 5 Constable – Special Election, unexpired term; and Ward 4 Justice of the Peace – Special Election, unexpired term.
