LAFAYETTE – Charles Boustany will begin his fifth term as a conservative Republican congressman in January, and Jeff Landry’s first term as one will end the same day.

Boustany won Saturday’s run-off between the two to represent the newly redrawn 3rd Louisiana District.

Boustany and Landry were thrown into the new district by reapportionment when the Legislature created the new southwest Louisiana-Acadiana district, one whose design favored Boustany, who was the incumbent in two out of three parishes in the new district.

The winner, a retired physician, is affiliated with the traditional Republican power base in the House; Landry is more a Tea Party man.
