St. Mary Community Action Agency will be holding its 45th annual Committee Meeting Friday.

The program will be held in the Pavilion at Cypress Bayou at 6 p.m.

CAA will be acknowledging and highlighting achievements by local mayors.

Honorees are the mayors of Franklin and Baldwin.

Mayor Raymond Harris Jr. is no stranger to high achievement. After attending LSU and graduating from Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting he was appointed chief financial officer for the City of Franklin. On Sept. 18, 2004, he was sworn in as the first African-American mayor of Franklin.

Under the leadership of Mayor Harris, Franklin has made progressive strides for a brighter future. The attraction of new and existing businesses to this area of St. Mary Parish has always been a priority for him.

In a community that is big on family, friendships, good food and fun, it is easy to recognize those who truly have love for where they come from.

Mayor Wayne J. Breaux is no exception. He is a father of two, Adrienne and Clint, and as a lifelong St. Mary Parish resident it is no surprise that he came back to “right the ship” in Baldwin. As a well-known businessman in the area, Breaux gained much of his experience while working for the Town of Baldwin.

Positions he’s held prior to becoming mayor in 1991 include assistant town clerk, town clerk, treasurer and tax collector. A degree in accounting allowed him to flourish as a licensed real estate agent for 34 years. Breaux is currently serving his sixth 4-year term as mayor.
