MORGAN CITY — The Central Catholic Eagles will open the Class 1A playoffs against Tensas High School at home Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Eagles, Class 1A’s second-ranked squad, enter the matchup with an overall record of 20-4. They won the District 8-1A title with an 8-0 mark.

Tensas, the No. 31 seed, enter the playoffs with an 8-20 overall mark.

This is the third year in a row the two squads have met. Both times, Central Catholic has blown out the north Louisiana school.

However, at least in last year’s contest, Tensas gave Central Catholic a good game early until the Eagles began to pull away in the second period.

That same Tensas squad returns two of their leading scorers.

Central Catholic coach Ree Case said he watched last year’s film and some other film he got on Tensas and said they like to play a lot of 2-3 zone and 1-3-1 zone on defense.

“They were very similar to what they did last year,” he said.

He said the Eagles will be facing an athletic and quick squad.

Despite the long drive and the Eagles’ lofty ranking, Case said he doesn’t expect Tensas to be intimidated by his squad, either.

“I think they’ll be very familiar with the surroundings and having played us the last (two) years in a row,” he said.

Entering Tuesday’s matchup, Case expects his son, Central Catholic starter Nick Case, to play after the junior hurt himself late in Wednesday’s win against Loreauville while going for the ball.

“He practiced today,” Case said Sunday, “so he should be ready to go on Tuesday.”
