MORGAN CITY — Central Catholic overwhelmed Patterson, 59-24, in nondistrict action Friday.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 38-13 halftime lead behind Meo Knight’s 15 points and Randi Brown’s 12.

“We kept a little pressure on them up front because we wanted to start fast,” Central Catholic coach Jamarr Garrett said. “We wanted to get an early lead, so we could get some playing time for our younger girls.”

CCHS also was shorthanded with four players out for various reasons.

“We need to develop some depth whenever we get the opportunity to because our starters are usually worn out by the third quarter,” Garrett said.

CCHS (12-6) led 55-16 after three quarters and cruised to the win.

The Lady Eagles open District 8-1A Tuesday at Ascension Episcopal (4-10).

Knight and Brown led Central Catholic as both approached triple-doubles in the victory.

Knight had 24 points, 10 steals, nine rebounds, four blocks and three assists, while Brown had 18 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and five assists.

Other top contributors included Abbie Bergeron, seven points, three steals, two assists and one rebound; Courtney McGuire, six points, two steals, one assist and three rebounds; and Megan Landry, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Tala Johnson led Patterson with 10 points and five rebounds, while Tiera Butler, six points and five rebounds; Nakia Brooks, four points, two rebounds and a steal; and Alex Benjamin, three points and a rebound were other top contributors.

Patterson coach LaGenia Darnell declined comment on the contest.

Patterson (2-11, 1-3 District 9-3A) will host Franklin (3-12) Tuesday.
