MORGAN CITY — Central Catholic picked up a victory at home Tuesday in high school volleyball action with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-11) win against Belle Chasse.
CCHS (12-7) was led by Meo Knight’s 13 kills, seven digs, four solo blocks and a block assist, while Celine Flores also had a solid outing with eight kills, three aces and 14 digs.
Other CCHS contributors included Brie Hill, six kills, an assist, five solo blocks and a block assist; Caroline Byrne, 26 assists and a dig; Gee Garrett, two kills, four solo blocks and a block assist; and Brittany Longman, four aces and digs apiece.
CCHS (12-7) will return to action Wednesday when it travels to face 2011 Division II (Class 4A) runner-up St. Thomas More. Action will begin at 4 p.m. with freshman play, followed by junior varsity and varsity action.
Patterson wins in 3
The Patterson Lumberjills bounced back nicely from a tough district loss to Berwick Monday with a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) against West St. Mary in non-district action Tuesday.
“We played like we are supposed to play today,” PHS coach Chasity Fontenot said Tuesday. “We came out with the want and desire to win. When we do this and cut down on the errors, we are an emerging team, taking positive steps forward.”
Carissa Fontenot led Patterson with six points, seven aces, three digs, two kills and 10 assists, while Caitlyn Fontenot added four points, six digs and kills apiece, and two assists.
Other Lumberjills’ contributors included Kailyn Johnson, five points, two aces, three digs, six kills and one assist; Rachel Easley, five points and digs apiece and two kills; Rebecca Taylor, four points, five digs and a kill; Courtnie Boudreaux, a point, three digs and five kills; Carli McIntyre, 10 digs; and Tamia Washington, six points and a dig.
While Tuesday’s matchup originally was scheduled for earlier this month, it had to be postponed because of a scheduling conflict for West St. Mary.
The Lumberjills (9-7) will resume district play Thursday when they host E.D. White. Junior varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity action.
MCHS falls to Assumption
Morgan City High School fell hard to Division II power and district opponent Assumption High, 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 11-25) in Napoleonville Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers were led by Kloé Liner’s three kills, 10 digs and a block, while Jaiveianna Jones added four kills and digs apiece and a block. Katelyn Adams also added eight assists and five digs in the loss.
The Lady Tigers won the junior varsity contest, 25-16, 16-25, 15-5.
Tyler Hebert led MCHS with four aces, three kills and 11 digs, while Brandi Ingram added an ace and assist apiece, three kills and 11 digs.
Other MCHS contributors included May Grogan, eight kills and two blocks; Taylor Prince, a kill, 11 assists and five digs; and LeeAnne Price, nine digs and an assist.
The MCHS freshmen squad fell to Assumption, but no score was available.
Morgan City will return to action Thursday when it travels to neighboring Central Catholic. Freshmen action will begin at 4 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity play.
