Central Catholic High School was well represented on the District 8-1A All-District girls’ basketball team, with three selections on the five-member first-team squad, including the district’s most valuable player and its coach of the year.
CCHS’ Meo Knight, a sophomore, led the Lady Eagles on the squad as she was selected MVP. It was the second consecutive year she has earned district MVP honors.
This year, she averaged 19.8 points per game, 13.9 rebounds per game, 11.3 steals per game, 6.7 assists per game and 5.2 blocks per game.
CCHS’ Kindra Halverson, whose squad finished undefeated in district play with a 6-0 mark, was named the district’s Coach of the Year.
Other first team selections for the Lady Eagles were Randi Brown, who finished the season with averages of 21.4 ppg., 8.9 rbp., 7.1 spg. and 5.7 apg. and junior Makayla McDaniel, who had averaged 11.8 ppg., 12.4 apg., 6.5 rpg. and 7.4 spg.
Other first team selections include Vermilion Catholic’s Katie Frith and Ashailee Brailey.
CCHS’ Megan Landry also was selected to the district’s All-Defensive team, while Geralyn Garrett, Brie Hill, Abigail Bergeron and Caroline Byrne all were honorable mention selections for the Lady Eagles.
The second team all-district squad is composed of Vermilion Catholic’s Kaylen Collins and Mikhyla Campbell, along with Gueydan’s Anna Lafosse and Hanson’s Macie Guillotte and Brittany Broussard.
Other All-Defensive selections include Brailey, Tiffany Cady of Gueydan and Broussard.
Other honorable mention selections include Mia LeBeouf and Natalie Campbell of VC, Kylie Crochet and Sheridan Guidry, both of Gueydan, and Mallory Chiasson of Hanson.
Also, an All-Academic team for the district was selected, and CCHS placed Byrne, Bergeron, Knight, Karley Guidry, Maria Templet, Hill, Landry, McDaniel, Brown, Anastasia Johnson and Carlie Boagni on the squad.
