Central Catholic went winless this weekend at Vandebilt Catholic’s tournament as the Lady Eagles fell to St. Michaels, 79-55, after falling Friday to Ponchatoula, 57-49.
In Saturday’s loss, St. Michaels outscored Central Catholic in every quarter except the second as the Lady Eagles went into halftime trailing 42-35.
St. Michaels put the game away in the second half as it outscored Central Catholic, 37-20.
Meo Knight recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds as well as four assists, three steals and a block.
Other top Central Catholic contributors included Randi Brown, 22 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, four steals and two assists and Megan Landry, four points and five rebounds.
In Friday’s action against Ponchatoula, Ponchatoula built its lead a little at a time as it held a 15-14 advantage after a quarter, a 30-25 lead after a half, a 49-43 lead after three quarters, and then had an 8-6 scoring edge in the final quarter.
Knight led Central Catholic with a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds as well as three steals, two assists and a block, while Brown added 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Other top Central Catholic contributors included Landry, six points, two blocks, three steals, one assist and three rebounds; and Abbie Bergeron, three points, one block, one steal, two assists and two rebounds.
The Lady Eagles will return to action Friday when it hosts its first home game of the season at 5:30 p.m. against Westgate.
Morgan City falls at
Morgan City outscored Plaquemine, 12-4, to begin the contest, but the home-standing squad had the advantage the next three quarters as it outscored Morgan City en route to a 45-39 victory.
Plaquemine responded to the first-quarter deficit with a 14-9 second-quarter advantage as it went into the half trailing 21-18.
The home-standing squad took the lead into the fourth quarter, 30-25, following a 12-4 advantage in the third quarter.
Plaquemine narrowly outscored Morgan City, 15-14, for the final.
Jaylen Jones led Morgan City with 13 points, while Tyrin Watts also reached double figures with 12. Brady Fryou added seven.
Morgan City will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Thibodaux. Freshman action begins at 5 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity play.
