Central Catholic swept the top-honors on the All-District 8-1A squad, as Meo Knight was named most valuable player and head coach Jamarr Garrett earned Coach of the Year honors.
Knight, a junior, was named to the top squad after finishing with district per-game averages of 16 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.6 steals, 2.6 assists and 1.3 blocks.
In his first season as head coach, Garrett’s squad finished 8-0 in district, including two wins against district foe and eventual Class 1A state champion Vermilion Catholic.
Joining Knight on the first team was teammate Randi Brown, who finished district with averages of 17.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.5 assists and 0.8 blocks.
Other first-team selections included Vermilion Catholic’s Katie Frith and Ashailee Brailey and Hanson’s Brittney Broussard.
Central Catholic placed one player on the second team, senior Makayla McDaniel. Other second team selections included Ascension Episcopal’s Sarah Seago, Vermilion Catholic’s Kaylen Collins and Gueydan’s Anna LaFosse.
The Lady Eagles had three named to the honorable mention squad in — Abbie Bergeron, Caroline Byrne and Megan Landry.
Vermilion Catholic’s Natalie Camel, Ellen Langlinais, Katie Meaux and Kryie Collins were honorable mention selections as well as Gueydan’s Kylie Crochet and T’Nia Leger; Hanson’s Emily Sonnier, Macie Guillote, Kim Sonnier and Haley Bollinger; and Ascension Episcopal’s Sarah Beadle.
Central Catholic’s Bergeron was selected to the district’s All-Defensive team as well as Brailey of Vermilion Catholic, Keara Charles of Gueydan, Broussard of Hanson, and Chelsea Lotief of Ascension Episcopal.
