THE CENTERVILLE HIGH School Flying Bulldogs Rocket Team was honored at the St. Mary Parish School Board’s June monthly meeting for its top 100 finish at the Team America Rocketry Challenge in May. The team, one of 609 teams to participate and the only one in Louisiana, finished in the top 10 percent of all competitors. The contest was sponsored by the National Association of Rocketry, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, the American Association of Physics Teachers and AIA member companies in The Plains, Va. Teams are required to meet specific criterion for building, launching and recovering a custom model rocket. The 100 teams with the best scores are invited to compete in the national competition. CHS team members were, from left, David Brossett, project manager/launch control, Peyton Landry, payload specialist, Derek Young, recovery specialist, Melinda Hebert, fuselage construction and Julie Robin, science teacher and sponsor.
