
Morgan City High School’s playoff run came to an end Monday on the road as the squad fell to defending Division 2 state champion Cabrini High School. Defending Division 2 state champion Cabrini High knocked off Morgan City High School 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-12) in regional volleyball action Monday.
Cabrini, the No. 5 seed in Division 2, received a first round bye and hosted Monday’s action against No. 12 seed Morgan City.
After a rough first game, Morgan City was able to keep things closer in the second and third games.
Morgan City made a run early in the second set, using Marilynn Bailey digs.
The Lady Tigers’ 7-5 deficit in the second game, however, was as close as it got to Cabrini.
The hitting of such Cabrini players as Dominique Clegget, Ainsley Marrocoli and Taylor Conaway provided a challenge for the Morgan City defense.
Clegget led Cabrini with 11 kills.
Morgan City took a 2-0 lead in the third game, but the Crescents responded with an 8-1 run.
For Morgan City, Katelyn Adams recorded three kills, four digs and three assists, while Jaivieanna Jones added four kills, a dig and two blocks.
Other Morgan City contributors included Bailey, an ace and nine digs; Savannah Loupe, 10 digs; and Kloé Liner, a kill and five digs.
Other Cabrini contributors included Jena Landry with five aces and Bailey Hepting with 15 assists.
Morgan City concludes its season with a 23-17 record, while Cabrini improves to 30-10.
With the win, Cabrini advanced to the state volleyball Pontchartrain Center in Kenner where it will play No. 4 St. Scholastica, who defeated No. 13 Sam Houston, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15 in other regional action Monday.
