The panel on Tuesday voted 8-4 not to put on its agenda a proposed ordinance to ban wearing PJs in public.
Michael Williams said he plans to bring the issue back up when he can.
Commissioner Joyce Bowman wore pajama pants at the meeting to protest the ordinance.
“I can wear what I want to wear, when I want to wear, where I want to wear without the government interfering in my life telling me what I can and I can’t buy with my money,” Bowman said. “What they need to do, the sheriff and the police, is be catching these folks shooting all over the city.”
The ordinance would have made it illegal to wear pajamas or other traditional sleepwear in public. Violators would have been cited and fined up to $100 and eight hours of picking up trash or other community service. Fines would increase to $150 and $250 for subsequent violations.
