Qualifying began Wednesday for elections for Morgan City mayor and councilmen. Those present to qualify this morning at the Clerk of Court’s office pictured from left above are Louis J. Qualifying for the Nov. 6 election opened this morning.

Though there are no local elections in the Franklin area, candidates are lining up for races in Patterson and Morgan City.

As of 10 a.m. this morning, mayoral candidates in Morgan City were Larry P. Bergeron, Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi and Kevin Voisin.

Council candidates include Tim T. Hymel for District 1; Barry J. Dufrene for District 2; C.E. “Charlie” Pratt in District 3; Ronald Berry and James Fontenot in District 4 and Louis J. Tamporello Jr. in District 5.

There is also a seat available on the Patterson City Council after the death of member Claire Sawyer. No one had qualified as of 10 a.m.

United States Representative for the 3rd Congressional District has seen two qualifiers, incumbents Charles W. Boustany Jr., currently representing 7th Congressional District and Jeff Landry, incumbent in the 3rd Congressional District. Reapportionment placed Boustany and Landry into the same race.

Candidate William C. Dupont, of Plaquemine, has qualified for the Louisiana State Court of Appeals, 1st Circuit, 1st District, Division B.

Erich Ponti, of Baton Rouge, has qualified for representative to the Public Service Commission’s District 2.

No one had yet qualified as of press time for Associate Justice, 6th Supreme Court District or 1st Circuit Court of Appeal, 1st District, Division D.
