The young woman accused of leaving the scene of a fatal car accident Saturday night was arrested Tuesday.

Paige Garrett, 18, of Amelia was charged with felony hit and run after she turned herself in on the warrant around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to the Berwick Police Department.

Chief James Richard said Garrett returned to the scene of the accident in which Eugene Lee LeNoir, 41, and Sarah LeNoir, 40, were killed on La. 182 near Tournament Boulevard after she was called by authorities.

The motorcycle the LeNoirs were riding struck the rear of a vehicle in the turning lane on La. 182 around 11:15 p.m. that night, causing them to be thrown into the eastbound lanes where Garrett and another motorist struck them.

Richard said the initial crash likely was survivable on its own. He also indicated that hitting the couple in the roadway was unavoidable for the two motorists.

This morning, he reiterated that had Garrett not left the scene, she would not have been charged in this accident.

Garrett was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

Elsewhere, Ebony Francis, 24, of Canal Road in Bayou Vista was charged at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday with theft by shoplifting.

Chief Patrick LaSalle said Francis took less than $100 of merchandise from Dollar General.

Francis remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

Carlise Grogan, 21, of Sixth Street of Morgan City was arrested on Tuesday at 6:03 p.m. for theft by shoplifting and probation violation by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Burke’s Outlet Store manager told sheriff's deputies that several subjects were concealing items in the store. Grogan then would pick up the items and conceal them in her purse, Sheriff Mark Hebert said. Clothing items valued at $50.95 were recovered.

Grogan was booked into the parish jail where she remained this morning with no bond set.
