Students will be dismissed two hours earlier than usual on Dec. 21 for the Christmas holidays.

Elementary students will be released at 1 p.m., while junior high and high school students will get out at 12:30 p.m. on that day.

High school students will be dismissed early on Dec. 20 following their exams. Students may leave at 12:30 p.m., but buses will not run until 2:30 p.m. If a student must ride the bus, he or she will be required to stay on campus until that time.

Also, Chief Technology Officer Kevin Derise told the St. Mary Parish School Board Tuesday he and Superintendent Donald Aguillard recently had discussions concerning school computer policies.

Many students likely will receive tablets and similar personal devices for Christmas. If they are internet-capable, they must not be 3G or 4G enabled to be on school property. They can have wireless access and be used on school property because they would then hook into the school’s internet system and be supervised by the district’s content filter.

It is up to each school to monitor the devices brought to schools.

Derise said district policies may need to be reviewed concerning tablets, e-readers and other similar devices. Also, he said, money may be needed soon for infrastructure to support the increase in these devices.

In other action, the board:

—Learned the Morgan City Rotary Club donated $2,000 to assist with the installation of caution lights near Centerville High School.

—Called a special meeting Dec. 15 to receive another version of the district’s proposed redistricting plan and other matters.

—Held an executive session to discuss the professional competence of an employee. The person in question was present. No further information is available on the matter due to privacy laws.

All members of the board were present for Tuesday’s meeting.
