Some people say that there is nothing to do in Franklin, but the city has plenty of events during the year.

Office of Development Director Arlana Shields suggests visiting www.franklin-la.com to find out what is going on in the city.

The left side of the home page lists events that are featured for a limited time. There is also an events calendar on the right side of the page. Visitors can click on the box beneath the words “events calendar” and will be taken to the month of January. From there visitors can move from month to month and make plans to attend future events in Franklin.

Additionally, the city has two community boards on Main Street. Organizations that are hosting events open to the general public are welcome to have their publicity materials posted. Use of the community boards is on a first-come, first-served basis, and it is free.

Posters should be at least 29 inches by 35 inches, laminated or otherwise protected from the weather and neatly done. The signs should be constructed in a manner that will give a good first impression of Franklin and the organization.

“Signs for the community boards don’t have to be done by a professional, but they should appear as if a professional did them,” Shields said.

The Office of Community Development is eager to fill up the online events calendar for 2012 and have an organization, museum, school or church using the community boards each week. Contact Arlana Shields at ashields@franklin-la.com or at 828-6345 for more information.
