Cleco’s annual fan drive will help some elderly customers stay cooler this summer thanks to 1,150 fans recently delivered to local Councils on Aging.

Each year, Cleco employees contribute funds and raise money to purchase fans. Now in its twelfth year, Cleco’s fan drive provides fans to a total of 19 Councils on Aging in the parishes served by Cleco.

“Our employees are committed to this effort,” said Keith Crump, senior vice president of commercial operations. “We understand summer can be extra tough for our elderly customers, and we want to do what we can to help them.

“We know many of our elderly customers live on fixed incomes. Use of fans can make the air feel 10 degrees cooler and cost a fraction of what an air conditioner costs to run. And for customers who don’t have air conditioning, a fan is essential in the summer heat.”

All customers can help use energy more efficiently during the hot summer months by following some simple tips.

–Set the thermostat at 78 degrees or higher if comfort allows.

–Make sure drapes, plants and furniture do not block registers for supply or return air.

–Don’t run heat-producing appliances during the heat of the day.

–Close shades and drapes during the day to keep out the sun’s heat.

–Don’t place freezers or refrigerators in non air-conditioned areas such as garages.
