Comeaux capitalized on several special teams blunders to build a 37-0 first quarter cushion. The Spartans took a 2-0 lead early in the game on a safety after the punt was snapped through the endzone.
West St. Mary Coach Marquis Newsome said his team came out flat.
“We came out flat and had problems with our special teams as we had six punts blocked,” he said. “We will stay positive and continuing playing hard as we are progressing from week to week. I just reminded the team that God gives his strongest tests to his strongest soldiers.”
Newsome also stated starting quarterback Travell Dixon had surgery on Thursday to repair his ankle which will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Comeaux’s Tyrek Malveaux scored two touchdowns in the opening moments of the game to ignite the Spartans.
Ethan Rose added a touchdown, Eric Chapman had a 45-yard fumble recovery before Donovan Martin scored on a two-yard fumble recovery in the first quarter and James Guillory scored on a 24 yard run in the second quarter to give the Spartans a 44-0 halftime cushion.
Donald Thibodeaux and Tyrek Williams scored in the second half to help power the Spartans to the huge victory.
West St. Mary’s Moses Robertson returned a punt 55 yards for a score during the fourth quarter as the Wolfpack avoided the shutout.
James Guillory led the Spartans in rushing with four carries for 27 yards and one touchdown while Tyrek Malveaux had eight attempts for 47 yards and two TDs.
West St. Mary’s Glen Marsh carried four times for 21 yards while Darien Anderson picked up 29 yards in 12 attempts.
West St. Mary (0-7) will play host to the Delcambre Panthers next Friday in District 6-2A action.
