Franklin firefighters provide standby assistance at a controlled burn of a mobile home under demolition Wednesday on Thomas Street in the Gum Point area. The 1:35 p.m. call-out was the second incident within 14 hours for the department, according to Chief Chuck Bourgeois. He reported that the St. Mary Parish Consolidated Gravity Drainage District building at 305 Highway Ave. had minimal damage from an electrical fire Tuesday night. That call came in at 11:14 p.m. and the fire that originated in and was contained to a storage area was under control in 16 minutes. Personnel from Baldwin and Centerville volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene. Bourgeois said there were no injuries at either incident.
